Slow-Cooked Beef in Onion Sauce

A comforting and easy meal featuring tender beef cooked in a rich onion sauce, perfect for any night of the week.

  • 2 pounds stewing beef, trimmed and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 packet of onion soup mix (approx. 1 oz.)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz.) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the stewing beef and cut into bite-sized pieces. Season with freshly ground black pepper.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, flour, water, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until well combined.
  3. Add prepared beef pieces to the slow cooker and pour the sauce mixture over the beef, stirring gently to coat.
  4. Cover slow cooker with lid and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours.
  5. Once cooking time is up, stir gently and serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta.

Notes

For a thicker sauce, add cornstarch mixed with water towards the end of cooking. Feel free to add vegetables like carrots or potatoes for extra nutrition.
