Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth

Method

Instructions
  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat and transfer to your slow cooker.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the same skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until fragrant. Transfer to the slow cooker.
  3. Add all remaining ingredients to the slow cooker - beans, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, spices, and beef broth.
  4. Stir everything together until well combined.
  5. Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH for 3-4 hours.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed before serving.

Notes

Brown the ground beef in small batches for richer flavor. This chili tastes even better the next day. Freezes beautifully for up to 3 months. Adjust cayenne pepper level for desired spice.
