  3. In a separate bowl, mix hot water, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and sour cream until smooth
  4. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined
  5. Pour the batter into prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean
  6. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting
  7. While cake cools, beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder
  8. Incorporate milk and vanilla into frosting mixture and beat until light and fluffy
  9. Spread the dark chocolate frosting evenly over the cooled cake
